When I had Harris, I received 350,000yen and that cover all the hospital bills. This year, when I knew of my pregnancy around May, the amount had increased to 380,000yen and they also gave extra coupon to subsidized hospital bills for prenatal check up (they gave 14 coupons this time, b4 its used to be 9 coupons only). I was happy enough! Because I still remember paying a lot for Harris's prenatal check up but I was lucky bcoz my hubby works with the govt and I can always reimbursed all the cost incurred. I am even more happy when they are increasing another 40,000yen. Happy, happy, happy but I am sure the hospital are increasing their cost as well so at the end of the day I am not getting extra money but for sure I am getting all the good service they are giving me. I am happy enough. What more can I ask, right? I am going to stay at a nice private room + tv + washlet toilet for 5 days after delivery and foods are delivered direct from a hotel.
Furthermore, Japanese govt is subsidizing an insurance for babies that are born with mental difficulties due to risky labor. The insurance will pay for medical treatment from the moment the baby is born until the age of 20. I forgot the actual name for the insurance but they add another 30,000yen in addition to 420,000yen so that all mothers can join the insurance without paying any extra fees.
Before, this kinda subsidy must forgo procedure through the city hall but starting from this year we do not need to do like that anymore. The hospital will do the procedure and all we need to do is to sign a proxy paper. Kenapa la dr dulu tak wat camni. Kan senang.
